Minutes of the Board of Trustees

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, in the Library’s Board Room. Attending the meeting were Trustees Chris Vaage, Kyle Tarbett, Monica D’Angelo, John VanEngelen and City Council Liaison Suzanne Hawkins. Library Director Tara Bartley; Library Staff Karolee Sorenson and City Manager Travis Rothweiler. Approval of the agenda: January 10, 2018. Monica D’Angelo motioned to approve agenda. Kyle Tarbett 2nd the motion. 4:00 pm Trustee Interview Cindy Beezas. Interview for new trustee approximately 20 minutes. A brief discussion after the interview was held discussing thoughts regarding the interview and the candidate. The decision was made to recommend Cindy as the next library trustee. Will bring recommendation before City Council on January 29, 2018. Travis Rothweiler left the meeting and a five-minute break was held. Chairman Chris Vaage reconvened the meeting at 4:37 p.m. with brief introductions. The Trustees MSC the approval of the December 13, 2017 minutes. John VanEngelen made the motion to approve. Kyle Tarbett 2nd the motion. Approval of Financial Statements John looked over the bills and recommended approval. The Trustees MSC the approval of the December 2017 bills. John VanEngelen made the motion to approve last month’s bills, Monica D’Angelo 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0. Financial/Statistical report: The Trustees MSC the approval of the December 2017 Financial Statements. Kyle Tarbett made the motion to approve the December 2017 Financial Statements. John VanEngelen 2nd the motion. Roll call vote taken. Approved 4-0.

Communications & Correspondence

January 12 at 6:30 pm Humans of the Magic valley will be held at the library. Program was marketed with Facebook and flyers placed in various areas around Twin Falls. Chris suggested we use the CSI Facebook page to market library events. There are currently 10 people to interview. January 15 the library will be closed to observe Martin Luther King Jr./Human Rights Day. Currently the 2018 holiday schedule is pending approval. January 19 Youth Services will be having the Stuffed Animal Sleepover. January 26 Adult Murder Mystery Night from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

City Council

City Council is in the new Council Chambers. Council is working on the new calendar and legislation.

Library Foundation

There will be a retreat on January 20. John has not been contacted regarding the retreat. Tara will follow up.

Business Issues

Approval of the 2018 Holiday Closing Schedule. Monica D’Angelo motioned to approve John VanEngelen 2nd the motion. Discussion to change the Columbus Day holiday in 2019 from a holiday to a staff retreat day. Tara is working on Trustee assignments for 2018.

Library Staff

Library Director

Outreach librarian position will be opened until the 27th. Discussion was held on the requirements of the position. Was discussed on other options as far as advertising for the position such as Linkedin and the School District and possibly a job description change. Cody Thoroman in our Acquisitions Department has requested additional responsibilities. He will be taking ALA online courses to bring him up to speed to take on additional responsibilities. The Strategic Plan is 75% complete. Should be completed for review in the coming months. Food for fines collected 1241 lbs. of food valued at $1,876.65, writing off $1,066.00 in fines. Wednesday January 17, Tara will have a webinar on the Homeless Training. Still deciding on how to proceed with the training to the Library staff.
