Celebrate Idaho Day!

Idaho Day is March 4, a day when Idahoans are encouraged to celebrate the uniqueness of our state. Whether we focus on our beautiful natural resources, the incredible diversity of our citizens, or our fascinating heritage and history, Idaho Day is a time for us to be proud of all we represent.

Twin Falls Public Library has gotten into the spirit of the celebration, offering a number of ways to observe the day. We’ve created an animated video to explain the significance of March 4, as well as a short presentation about one of Idaho’s most enduring symbols. We’ve also dug into the archives to pull together a number of resources highlighting the history of the state as well as early Twin Falls. Check out the display of state histories inside the Library, or visit our new online mini-collection of historical photographs from the Idaho Room.

The mini-collection features 40 photos, depicting some of the distinctive buildings that made up our early town. Some of those buildings are still standing, but many have been lost to history. Still, it’s exciting to see what Twin Falls looked like over 100 years ago, and to see how much we’ve changed since those pioneer days. And, even though Twin Falls wasn’t around to see the first Idaho Day – the day in 1863 when President Lincoln signed the territory into being – we can definitely take advantage of March 4, 2015 to commemorate the spirit of our founders.

Take a look at the mini-collection, learn more about Idaho Day with our animated video, or come inside the Library to take a look at even more historical resources.
