he Caldecott Medal was first granted in 1938, and is awarded each year to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children. It is given by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The award is named for Randolph Caldecott, a 19th century illustrator.

The Yo
ung Reader's Choice Awards is an annual award picked by you! Readers throughout the Pacific Northwest nominate, then vote, on their favorite books. Voters must be in grades 4th to 12th, though anyone can nominate a book. The award began in 1940 by Harry Hartman, a Seattle bookseller.
